Grand Hotel

Some pubs call themselves grand – this one actually is. The Grand Hotel sits in the small Murray River town of Nyah West, Victoria, a century-old pub that’s been pouring drinks since the town’s railway boom days.
Nyah West sprang to life in 1915 when the railway line was extended from Swan Hill to Piangil, and the Grand opened its doors to serve the railway workers, fruit growers, and river traders who made this stretch of the Murray their home.
With plenty of history hanging on the walls, you can almost hear the echoes of those early settlers who built their lives around the railway and the river. Today it remains what most imagine when they think of a traditional Aussie country pub – the kind of place where locals gather and travelers are welcomed like old friends.
In a town that knows its history, the Grand Hotel stands as a reminder of when the railway brought promise to the Murray River frontier.
